Midway 1 - Class - STAINS and VARNISHES

Divided into 4 steps + hands on, Midway 1 will teach you the 1st important steps to achieve professional results when applying Stains and Varnishes

1 – Materials
In this step you will learn about the most common surfaces we apply stain to, as well as the proper primers, paints and stains we use on each of them.
We will also cover how to choose the right tools to achieve desired results.
2 – Prep work
We will go over in this portion about preparing the surroundings and the surface before starting any stain technique which is one of the most important parts of the whole process. Starting with the proper tapes that can and should be used and how to use them, passing through fixing little things in the base surface to prepare for application wrapping up with the proper sanding material, primer, (when applicable), conditioner, stains and varnishes with their particular properties.
3 – Starting
Choosing the stain application technique is important and here in this section we’re going to discuss the better ways to help you decide which ones to use and where to start to achieve the highest quality result. Apprentices will learn how and why choose a specific product in order to achieve the best results. At this point we’ll discuss when it is time for the final touches and how to do them.
4 – Final points
After the stain technique is finished is time for the pro look! Here you’ll learn how to finalize the work as a professional, applying varnish and removing the tape and fixing little mistakes which are fundamental steps. Learning a few tips can make a big different. Time for the clean-up and final touches that will make not only feel like a pro, but will have others see you as a pro!

Hands on 1
Hands on time!
In this section we selected 4 techniques to start practicing the pro-effect.
Simple techniques that will be taught to have a professional look!

Techniques:
- Water base stain on crown molding
- Water base stain on wood frame
- Oil base stain on wood baseboard
- Oil base stain on flat wood surface

 
Midway 2 - Class - PLASTERS 1

Divided into 3 steps + hands on, Midway 2 will teach you the important steps to achieve professional results when applying different types of plasters.

1 – Materials

In this step you will learn about the most common surfaces we apply plasters to, as well as the proper primers, paints and different plasters we use on each of them. For most plaster product we have the same principles but important tips will be useful for applying each of them. We will also cover how to choose the right tools to achieve desired results.

2 – Prep work

As always, we cannot forget to prepare the surroundings and the surfaces before starting any technique, for this is a crucial step in order to achieve the professional look. Proper tapes to be chosen and how they should be used, fixing little things in the base surface and preparing for application. We’ll also go over wrapping up with the proper sanding material, primer, (when applicable) and polishing tools.

3 – Starting

Here you will learn how to choose the plaster technique and application and we’re going to discuss the best ways to use and where to start to achieve the highest quality result Apprentices will learn how and why choose a specific product in order to achieve the best results. At the end we’ll discuss the best time for the final touches and how to do them.

3 – Final points

After the specific plaster technique is finished is time for the pro look! Here you’ll learn how to finalize the work as a professional, applying top coat when necessary, removing tape and fixing little mistakes. The tips shared here can make a big different in your future work. Clean-up time arrives and final touches will make the pro look come all together.

 

Hands on 2

Hands on time!
In this section we selected 4 techniques to start practicing the pro-effect.
Simple, but professional techniques will inspire you to create it on your own.

Techniques:
- Joint compound textures
- Venetian Plaster technique
- Luster Stone Technique
- Ottocento

 
Midway 3 - Class - PLASTERS 2
Based on the same 4 steps used for midway 1 and 2.

Confidence is building up by now! You can feel like: “I got this!” Midway 3 is divided into 2 parts + Hands on and we will continue into the “plaster world”. More information will deepen your knowledge to get you ready for more elaborate techniques coming in future workshops. You will leave Midway 3 ready to advance to more intricate and detailed finishes.

We will once again go over primers, paints and important materials to be used and how important tips will be useful when applying each of them. We will also cover how to choose the right tools to achieve desired results.

Preparing the surroundings and the surfaces before starting any technique cannot be forgotten in order to achieve the professional look. Proper tapes to be chosen and how they should be used, fixing little things in the base surface and preparing for application. Here you will learn one more time how to choose the plaster technique and application and continue to discuss which are the best ways to use and where to start to achieve the highest quality result.
